Often you will use it to counter an equip effect and feel really jipped by not getting great value out of the card however when you are a control mage you have to do what you have to do and just having those extra options goes a really long way
I would suggest destroying any 1 card on the field and it also gaining 1k ATK, instead of just gaining 1k ATK when it battles an opponent's monster, because you could just be running into Compulse/D-Prison/Mirror Force anyway, so it would be better to deal with those threats immediately
